Item: A Florida voting machine from the 2000 presidential election
Acquired by the RIAV: 2020
The 2000 election was a comedy of errors, starting with poorly designed voting machines in Florida and ending with a Supreme Court decision deciding that the nation is too lazy to count votes properly so let's just make Dubya president, OK?
This voting machine had two problems: many voters didn't totally perforate the card, and ballots were laid out confusingly, causing many Democrats to accidentally vote for Pat Buchanan rather than Al Gore.
Luckily, it all turned out fine – under Bush's fearless leadership, the US probably fixed climate change and found WMDs in Iraq. This left Al Gore plenty of time to perfect the Internet.
